Many photographers like taking pictures early mornings and just before sunset. I like that also … but not for racing. The best pictures are when you have full sun, a dark blue sky and it is an extra bonus when there are puffy white clouds.
Racing starts at 7pm on Friday evenings and although there is plenty of light it is not as good as the mid-day light. As the sun sets it gets pretty dark from a photographers perspective to get a good exposure without a flash (there is plenty of light for the spectators). I prefer no flash, since I can shoot a sequence of pictures.
I pretty much post everything I shoot. I developed this “special effect” process routine to deal with the pictures that are marginal. It arts up the picture so sharpness and color flaws are hidden.
