Aperture. The aperture was set to f/2.8. That is a wide-open setting (allows maximum light). The focus point was the pony. The rider, Riley, is also in focus. The background is blurred (Sports Illustrated magazine style). In many of the shots the rider is in focus but the calf is blurred. That is a function of a wide-open lens. To get the entire picture in focus I’d have to use strobes (the aperture could be adjusted to get the calf and rider in focus).
ISO: ISO 6400 is used for low light situations. Two of the three light rows over the competition area were turned off. The arena looked bright but photographically it was dark.
