On October 24th I took pictures of the juniors. It was also a cloudless day and there was a lot of glare. Since the 31st was a clear sky morning with no clouds, I decided to use a circular polarizer on the lens to take away the glare and hopefully get better colors. It looks like it softened the images a bit (they are not crisp) and maybe even made for a more uneven exposure.
Where the track is not black that harsh sun is reflecting light. That reflection is pretty tough to deal with. On shots 434 and 435 I turned the camera sideways and had all black as the background (then flipped the image in post production). Notice the nice color tone. When the sun is as harsh as it was on the 31st I’ll be turning the camera for shots from now on. The other shots that had better overall exposure were those shot from a low position. Those were shot using a wide-angle lens on those so there isn’t as crisp of detail.
On days like this you just have to take the shots and be happy with whatever you get.
