Theses pictures were shot using ISO 5000 and 6400. If you recall in the film days most of the film used was ISO 100. Think of ISO as a “light magnet.” The higher the ISO, the camera has more ability to attract the available light. As ISO is increased the image quality decreases. The images lose sharpness and become grainy. In addition to it being dark for photography purposes, at the starting line, the burn out smoke was getting between the car and the camera. The smoke is fine when it is behind the car. I did a few wide shots that make the problem obvious. In the dark, dark cars are harder to shoot because the camera has a hard time getting and keeping focus. The best night color seems to be bright yellow. If the car is dark and it has its headlights on or the headlights are on in a car in the staging area at the wrong angle, getting focus and/or a good shot is luck.
