I have a couple photography rules. Never shoot from behind the race car because even if the wind is blowing there usually is some burnout/exhaust smoke to shoot through. Shooting through smoke and photography are a bad mix.
Shooting from a low position up in most sports looks a lot better than shooting down. I try to avoid it but there was not much of a choice Saturday night.
Screw the rules. I already had 1000 front shots at this race so it was time to try something different. There were people everywhere to shoot through and photographically it was pretty dark to be shooting without a flash at that distance. It was fun shooting from that position although I really wanted to be about 300 feet past the finish line on the rail. That would be nuts!
